How we are run
Ickleford Pre-School is a Private Voluntary and Independent (PVI) nursery and registered charity run by a voluntary committee. While our experienced and qualified staff run the setting on a day-to-day basis, the committee has overall responsibility for the Pre-School. Without a fully staffed committee, our Pre-School would not be able to operate.
The committee is typically comprised of parents and carers of children at the Pre-School but also welcomes Affiliate Members (non parents) from the community. The Pre-School is a membership organisation, so when a child starts, their family automatically becomes a Family Member. Members are encouraged to get involved in their child’s care and to attend the Annual General Meeting where they choose who will be on the next committee.
How to get involved
There are lots of different ways to get involved.
Work with us to help care for your child
Ickleford Pre-School embraces partnership with parents and carers. Parents and carers are our children’s primary educators and we work with you to provide them with the best possible care and education. By developing a relationship with your child’s Key Worker, you can help us meet their needs and we can provide you with feedback and any reassurance you may need on your child’s time with us.
In addition to regular parent consultations, parents and carers can speak to staff at drop off and pick up each day (please let us know if you’d like to pop inside for a longer chat). We encourage parents to review their child’s records and contribute to them.
The Pre-School holds a number of fundraising events and seasonal assemblies that welcome parents and carers. These have included Christmas and Graduation assemblies, end of term parties, Easter egg hunts, barn dances and quiz nights.
Help out at events
Any help in running these events is always welcome. This could be baking cakes, running a stall, helping set up, or just liking an event on Facebook. You do not need to be on the committee to get involved.
Volunteer in session
We are fortunate to have a number of volunteers who come into session and spend time with the children. You may have a special interest you would like to share, or just want to help out on occasions where a few more pairs of hands are needed, such as a nature walk.
Become part of the Committee
New committee members are always welcome, and in fact are critical to the continuing opening of the Pre-School, as without a committee we cannot operate. It’s a great way to meet new people and find out how the Pre-School runs. We are friendly bunch and usually meet about once a month at someone’s house or in the pub.
There are lots of different aspects to the committee’s work, from Staff Management to Marketing, so it’s great to have a variety of people with different experiences and interests involved. People have differing amounts of time to spare, however even a small amount of support is valuable. It’s an interesting and rewarding way to help our children.
