Two Rooms

Ickleford Pre-School has two rooms, each specifically catering for our younger and our older children. The smaller Caterpillar Room (Playgroup) takes children from two to three years. Children attend the larger Butterfly Room (Nursery) from three years until they start school. The two rooms have different environments, appropriate to the needs of their children. However, close links exist between the two, with shared planning, activities and the occasional combined session. This allows plenty of opportunity for children to get to know each other, and produces a friendly, close-knit setting.

The Caterpillar Room. Playgroup.

The Caterpillar Room, also known as ‘Playgroup’, welcomes children from the age of two up to three years.

This small friendly setting introduces toddlers to a new sociable environment away from the home. Children are encouraged to practise their newly acquired walking and talking skills, and gain self-confidence. Our generous staff to child ratio ensures children receive the attention needed to feel safe and secure, and begin to explore their surroundings.

The Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a framework for early years education. We provide age-appropriate child-led activities that underpin EYFS values. Through playful teaching, our children are gradually introduced to specific areas of literacy; mathematics; expressive arts and design; and understanding the world.

What Our Families are Saying

“This is a lovely setting. My shy daughter has blossomed into a sociable little girl, ready for school.

“My little boy started when he just turned two years old having just moved into the village. We were made to feel so welcome with his key worker helping him to settle quickly. He runs into pre-school now every morning.”

“My son really looks forward to going to pre-school. I like the way that the staff re-iterate the rules that we have at home such as to play with kind hands and to have good manners at the table when eating. He has a great friendship with all of the staff and other pre-schoolers and he talks about them at home all of the time!”
